Class of 2025 Complementary MSUBA Membership

Membership in MSU Black Alumni Inc., is all about pride and helping students to graduate from MSU — pride in Michigan State and pride in being affiliated with the best alumni association in the country. Alumni, students, family, and friends are welcome to join the MSU Black Alumni Inc.

The revenue gained from your membership fees will allow the organization to continue to provide quality alumni programming and scholarships to outstanding students. We have MSUBA chapters across the country and share our experiences from Michigan State University.

MSUBA is pleased to offer the opportunity to join or renew your membership.

All annual memberships are issued for the fiscal year that runs July 1 through June 30.
A complementary 1-year Membership is our gift for recent graduates and new mentors who enroll via MSUConnect.
If you are renewing or becoming a member as an Annual, Lifetime, First-Year, or Joint member you may be contacted by our membership chair upon receiving your form.

Available Membership Options

(Regular) Annual Member $30 single / $40 joint **

This membership is reserved for all individuals who hold a degree from MSU or individuals who are former MSU students and have paid the annual membership dues in effect at the time of membership application.
The joint member option is available for individuals who are married to an active MSUBA member.

(Regular) Annual Associate Member $30 single / $40 joint**

This membership is reserved for all individuals who DO NOT hold a degree from MSU or individuals who HAVE NOT been former MSU students and have paid the annual membership dues in effect at the time of membership application.
The joint member option is available for individuals who are married to an active MSUBA member.

(Regular) Annual Collegiate Student Member $7**

This membership is reserved for all individuals who are enrolled and attending MSU and have paid the annual student membership dues in effect at the time of membership application.

Active Lifetime Member $325 single/ $450 joint**

This membership is reserved for all individuals who are current MSUBA members and have paid the lifetime membership dues in effect at the time of membership application.
The joint member option is available for individuals who are married to an active MSUBA member.

(Complementary) Mentor Member $0**

This complimentary 1-year membership is reserved for alumni who sign up as first-time mentors.
To receive this membership level, you must sign up via our MSUConnect partnership.

(Complementary) Introductory /1st Year Graduate $0**

This introductory 1-year membership is reserved for our newest alumni/ recent MSU graduates.
To receive this membership, you must register and have graduated in the previous year.

Closing the Graduation Gap

MSUBA’s Mentorship Commitment to Black Student Success

Student outcome data indicates Black students at MSU are experiencing significant opportunity gaps, especially in the graduation gap. For example, the most recent data reveals the average six-year graduation rate for all first-term new students is 82%, however, it is 65% for Black students.

In collaboration with the Black Student Success Initiative (BSSI), MSU Black Alumni Incorporated (MSUBA) has pledged to invest in supporting Black student success by establishing a mentoring program. In our research, we have discovered that if Black students actively participate in a student group or organization, engage in high-impact experiences, and have committed mentors, these students will matriculate and successfully graduate.

Our new partnership with the MSU Career Services Network, makes this effort easy, as we will utilize MSU Connect - a professional, networking and mentorship platform to engage in successfully building connections for our students. The platform also provides alumni an opportunity for mentors to connect with other alumni to support their own career, advancement, and development.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

MSUBA recently celebrated its 43rd anniversary. We have provided over 1000 scholarships to students and the endowment for our scholarship fund has surpassed $3 million – however, there is still more work to be done. Please join us in this commitment to help our students succeed and excel on their MSU journey bybecoming a mentor. As a former student, you can appeal to and advise students on navigating the complexities of MSU and the value of seeking tutoring, academic advising, and career development resources through positive motivation, and heartfelt advice. We expect that your interaction with students will take pace via WebEx, Zoom, phone calls, text messaging, FaceTime, or emails and should not exceed two hours per month!

To kick off our inaugural mentoring group in January 2024, we need to register 100 - 500 Black alumni. Just like our scholarship fund, we intend to grow our student engagement/mentor workforce every year for generations. Please volunteer to become a “difference maker” in a student’s life and help us eliminate the graduation and other opportunity gaps.
