Greetings MSU Black Alumni Members,
Over the last few months, we have experienced the stress and outrage that naturally accompanies viewing the challenging events we have been exposed to in our social media and in the news. Current events that are impacting the Black community include death by natural causes - and by incomprehensible causes.
The state of Michigan has more than 50,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, and I have heard several of your stories describing the personal impacts this pandemic has had on you. We know that the pandemic has required the cancellation of virtually every major gathering or event in 2020.
40th MSUBA Homecoming Celebration Postponed until 2021
The MSU Black Alumni Inc., (MSUBA) Board of Directors and our Homecoming Committee had discussed the possibility of hosting homecoming in person this fall - we would love nothing more than to celebrate our 40th year in existence. We had eagerly planned a weekend that would celebrate each decade, our growth, excellence and collective impact as Black alumni.
However, because there are daily and weekly changes to the current circumstances and multiple executive orders guiding social gatherings in Michigan, quite frankly the possibility of holding a grand homecoming celebration could be halted at any moment - wasting precious time, energy and resources by continued planning. In addition, MSUBA is thinking in the best interest of Alumni, students, faculty and staff thus your health and safety is our first priority.
Therefore, MSU Black Alumni Inc., is now alerting our membership that we will not host an in-person homecoming weekend in 2020. We are postponing this gathering until the fall of 2021 and planning has already begun for that mega-celebration. We hope you will join us then!
The business of MSUBA will be conducted virtually:
· Our annual meeting will take place virtually - more information will be distributed electronically.
· Scholarships will be awarded to students.
· Please be sure that we have your updated contact information click Here to ensure that we do.
