HOMECOMING UPDATES

MSUBA 2021 Homecoming

July 15, 2021

Greetings MSU Black Alumni,

We are reaching out to provide the status of Homecoming 2021 hotel reservations.  Previously, we indicated those with lifetime membership status would have the opportunity to reserve rooms between Monday, July 12, 2021 - Friday, July 16, 2021 and annual members Monday, July 19, 2021 - Friday, July 23, 2021. At this time, we are rescheduling the launch of our room block.

We want to ensure we include all of our paid members within our hotel specific communication.  As you are aware, there are a number of different databases that we have used throughout the years.  We have been diligently working to consolidate all databases and it is taking more time than we anticipated.  For more information, please refer to President Marshall's message on July 5, 2021.

Please rest assured those of us who are volunteering to resolve this technical issue are doing our absolute best and we appreciate your understanding, patience, and for offering us grace as we work through this unplanned delay.  Each member will still receive benefits. Expect to receive more information soon.

Lastly, do not forget to donate to our 40 for 40 campaign to commemorate our 40 years of existence and engagement with MSU Black Alumni.  We have yet to reach our goal.  You may donate by clicking here.

If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at homecoming@msuba.org

Thank You,

June 7, 2020

Greetings MSU Black Alumni Members,

Over the last few months, we have experienced the stress and outrage that naturally accompanies viewing the challenging events we have been exposed to in our social media and in the news. Current events that are impacting the Black community include death by natural causes - and by incomprehensible causes.

The state of Michigan has more than 50,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, and I have heard several of your stories describing the personal impacts this pandemic has had on you. We know that the pandemic has required the cancellation of virtually every major gathering or event in 2020.

40th MSUBA Homecoming Celebration Postponed until 2021

The MSU Black Alumni Inc., (MSUBA) Board of Directors and our Homecoming Committee had discussed the possibility of hosting homecoming in person this fall - we would love nothing more than to celebrate our 40th year in existence. We had eagerly planned a weekend that would celebrate each decade, our growth, excellence and collective impact as Black alumni.

However, because there are daily and weekly changes to the current circumstances and multiple executive orders guiding social gatherings in Michigan, quite frankly the possibility of holding a grand homecoming celebration could be halted at any moment - wasting precious time, energy and resources by continued planning.  In addition, MSUBA is thinking in the best interest of Alumni, students, faculty and staff thus your health and safety is our first priority.

Therefore, MSU Black Alumni Inc., is now alerting our membership that we will not host an in-person homecoming weekend in 2020. We are postponing this gathering until the fall of 2021 and planning has already begun for that mega-celebration. We hope you will join us then!

The business of MSUBA will be conducted virtually:

·       Our annual meeting will take place virtually - more information will be distributed electronically.

·       Scholarships will be awarded to students.

·       Please be sure that we have your updated contact information click Here to ensure that we do.

Distinguished Alumni Award Nominations:

Please submit your nominations for Distinguished Alumni Here  (deadline June 20, 2020)

Board of Directors Nominations:

Please submit your Board of Directors nominations Here (deadline August 14, 2020)

Continue to be safe and consider connecting with your local chapter to remain engaged. We look forward to seeing you at our next green and white event.

Sincerely,
