Under the dynamic and inspiring leadership of the renowned Grammy Award-winning pianist and distinguished alumnus of MSU Jazz Studies, Luther S. Allison, the New Orleans Songbook stands as a vibrant tribute to the legendary musicians and timeless compositions that embody the rich cultural heritage of the Crescent City.


This remarkable celebration not only pays homage to the iconic figures who have shaped the jazz landscape but also seeks to immerse audiences in the unique sounds and rhythms that characterize New Orleans music. The program features an impressive lineup of performances that include classic works by jazz pioneers such as Jelly Roll Morton, whose innovative approach laid the groundwork for modern jazz; Louis Armstrong, whose virtuosic trumpet playing and charismatic vocals transformed the genre; and Ellis Marsalis, a pivotal figure in the development of jazz education and performance.
